A new way of thinking....

Starting in 2022-2023, I am going to try a new philosophical way of teaching which will reflect the way I grade.

We often put so much emphasis on "what is my grade" instead of worrying about mastery of the content. We tend to look at the score instead of the feedback. In addition, o
ur U.S grading system is not equitable nor mathematically beneficial. There is NUMEROUS research that have shown using a 0% does not work in academics.  This is not about giving a student a "free pass". This is more of a "life happens", let's refocus and find success.

This approach will make the grading system more equitable by making it 10% between each grade level. If a student does not turn in an assignment, they will receive a 40%. An F is an F. The student still FAILED. This way, the student still has a chance to recoup.

Because of this, I will be extremely strict on make up work / late work. Also, I will NOT round grades.

Which grade book is accurate?

SKYWARD

How fast do you grade my work?

  • - On time Work: I am usually good about getting all work graded within one week time. Usually, it is no later then the following Sunday night, 11:59pm.

  • - Late Work: Any work not turned in on time will be graded on my time. Usually I get to it pretty quick but do not expect it done that day. Remember, I have the entire quarter. Best thing to do, is turn your work in on time if you can.

Progress Reports via Skyward

  • I do my best to send updated progress reports home every Monday by 8:00am via email!

  • It is the student/parents responsibility to ensure all contact information is up to date in Skyward. I bare NO responsibility if you do not receive updated emails.

  • This will reflect all graded work from the past week.

  • I will also provide updates in that email as well.
